There’s No Need To Run… You Are Home.

Video Inspiration: Thich Nhat Hanh: Stop Running

For anyone unfamiliar with his work, Thich Nhat Hanh was a Vietnamese Buddhist monk, spiritual leader, and one of the most prominent voices for peace in the 20th and 21st centuries.

He also spoke on subjects like compassion, mindfulness, the transformation of suffering, and the unity of all Life.

His main message was rooted in monastic simplicity: You are already Home.

“I have arrived.
I am Home.
I don’t feel the need to run anymore.
What I am looking for is right here, right now.”

—Thich Nhat Hanh

.
And yet, maybe we don’t feel safe and secure, as if we’re truly at home:

In our fast-paced modern world, we often feel the need to run — run to our next appointment, run to the store, run to work… it may feel as though we are being constantly pushed and pulled by currents of chaos and complications.

We may even find that feelings of depression and anxiety are arising simply because we haven’t given ourselves the space for the rest and reflection that we truly crave…

“We may have some despair… a lot of anger…
If you are deeply wounded, you want to heal.
Healing is possible with the practice of stopping.
If you don’t know how to stop running, the healing cannot take place.”

—Thich Nhat Hanh

.
According to Thầy, Home is not a physical place outside of us. Home is here, now. It is our innate sense of security and wholeness that we carry with us everywhere we go.

The only way to truly heal and return Home is by allowing space for stillness and silence. In stillness and silence, we can reflect upon and resolve any lingering issues in our lives that we may have skimmed over.

Slowly, the turbulence of the mind and body settles…

“It is possible for us to live every moment of our daily life in such a way that every moment becomes a moment of healing.
When you make a step, make sure that the step has the power of healing, relaxing.
When you breathe in, make sure that your in-breath has the power of stopping, healing.”

—Thich Nhat Hanh

.
With sustained mindfulness practice, we return Home to the comfort and ease of our own Being, carrying these feelings with us wherever we go.

And as we become more comfortable in our own skin, we also come to realize that there’s really nowhere to go.

We are already directly in the middle of the Beatific Vision.

This is Eden — Paradise.

You are already Home.

.

May every breath you take be one of Presence.
